CLF Black History Month Essay Contest

This month, CLF is hosting a Black History Month Essay Contest. The essay is a requirement for all Chesapeake Science Point students. Language Arts and English teachers will grade the essays and select the 5 best from middle school and the 5 best from high school to go on to the final round at CLF. Our students will be competing against the other 3 CLF schools. I KNOW we have a winner HERE!

Each of the 10 winners from our school will receive a $50 gift card. Additionally, student winners and their families are invited to a reception hosted by CLF on February 28th from 5pm to 7pm. One honorary mention from each school will be asked to read their essay to the audience. Dinner will be served and special guests will be in attendance.

Essay Prompt: Choose an African American who has made a significant contribution in a STEM related field. Explain their contribution and how it affects your life.

The rubric is attached to the handout that each student received last week.

There are also many names attached to the handout from which a student may choose. This is not an extensive list. Students may choose other people who are not on the list but are in the STEM field.

Good Luck everyone. We have some fantastic writers in this school!
Don't forget: This is a requirement for English/Language Arts classes and will be a writing grade for this marking period.

Anne Arundel County Public Library - Homework Center

This week the Anne Arundel County Public Library unveiled our completely redesigned online Homework Center. The Homework Center is a student's secret weapon for acing school assignments from Kindergarten through high school graduation. This new interface was developed by librarians, in consultation with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, to be easier for students to navigate and use. On this page you'll find access to premium electronic resources that are high quality, from reputable publishers, and cannot be found online. These materials, including reference books and test prep programs, are only available through our website with your Anne Arundel County Public Library card. For more help, students can always speak with a librarian at any time of the day or night with our AskUsNow chat service, and have access to absolutely free online tutoring in most subject areas, including math, with HelpNow through Brainfuse, which is available from 2 pm to midnight every day.

Thank you,

Aimee Maranto, Library Associate, Linthicum, MD

  AP Tests

All students in AP classes need to fill out the test order form that was sent home. Each test is $91. That fee is set by the College Board. Students who receive free/reduced meals are eligible for a fee waiver, but paperwork must be submitted with Dr. Gonzalez. All orders must be received by March 2 to avoid a late fee.
