CSP High Schooler Represents CSP at I-SWEEEP International Science Fair

CSP Freshman Brynna Neal will be representing Chesapeake Science Point at the International Sustainable World (Energy Engineering Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) in Houston, TX on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Brynna’s project, Feeding the World: A Study to Determine the Most Effective Organic Fertilizer to Grow Soy in Sand, placed second in the Environmental Management category at the Anne Arundel County Regional Science Fair held at North County High School on March 8, 2014. Neal, 14, tested two different types of cost efficient organic fertilizers - organic chicken litter and compost tea - to determine which was more beneficial to soy growth in sand. The experiment tested over 200 soybean plants! Neal’s data and analyses show that chicken litter is the better of the two organic fertilizers. She believes that, if used in moderation, chicken litter used as soybean fertilizer could not only be used to produce, consume, and profit from various foods, but could also be “a viable solution to reduce world hunger.”

The entire CSP community wishes her the best of luck in Houston!

Support the SPCA of Anne Arundel County

The 7th grader students will be collecting donations school-wide for the animals at the County’s shelter in Millersville.

Donations can include the following:  Premium Brand Dry dog, puppy, cat, and kitten food, 6 foot nylon and leather leashes, adjustable nylon puppy and adult collars, towels, blankets, sheet, non-medicated dog/puppy and cat/kitten shampoo, toys cat litter, scratching posts, covered cat beds, small bath mats, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, tissues, bleach, paper towels, gift certificates to pet stores.

In addition to these physical donations, we hope to “ADOPT A CAGE” by raising at least $500.00.  If we raise that money, the school will get their name on one of the cages at the SPCA.  The money will go toward all of the needs for that animal for 365 days.

We intend to raise the money by hosting “The Cutest Pet Contest”. Teachers and staff will enter their own pets into the contest.  Students will have the opportunity to vote for the cutest pet by putting quarters into the jar with the pet’s picture.  Students can vote for more than one animal with as many quarters as he/she wishes to donate.  The pet who raises the most money wins the contest.

Donations will be accepted ASAP.  Take all donations to homeroom teacher.   The homeroom with the most donations will win a “party”.

Students will be recognized in an exciting pre-game parade where students will go onto the field.  Family members can receive discounted tickets at the gate.

CSP Outdoor Classroom & Cafeteria

The High School Student Government Association has been working on a project called the CSP Outdoor Classroom and Cafeteria. The goal of this project is to place 10 picnic tables outside so that students are able to have classes and lunch outside.

However, it is very costly to purchase all these tables. That’s where we need your help! To fundraise for this project, we’re extending the opportunity to you, the CSP Community, to sponsor a picnic table.

Middle School students, High School students, CSP Staff, and CSP Parents are all welcomed to sponsor a table. Each table costs $120 to sponsor; sponsors will receive a plaque dedicated in their honor embedded into the table. Alternatively, you and three others can sponsor one table for $30 per person for a grand total of $120. Each individual will receive their own plaque; groups of more than 4 will receive one giant plaque instead (smaller groups or individuals may request a giant plaque instead of individual plaques).

We also want to extend this sponsorship idea in another way. Apart from sponsoring the picnic tables, you can also sponsor a decorative rock to be used as lining for our new flower gardens that will accommodate the tables. Each rock costs $5, and you will be able to paint and decorate the rock with your name on it to show your CSP school spirit.

All money is due by May 9, 2014 to Ms. Neal, Room 207, or Ishmam Mirza (11th Grade)

The tables and the rocks will be here for years to come, so this your chance to leave your mark on CSP!

For more information, contact SGA President Ishmam Mirza: mirzacubing@gmail.com
