Mr. Lancaster Letter

At the AACPS board meeting on Wednesday. I spoke with several board members and folks from the press. They are all interested in our scheduled renewal on Feb 5th. I told them about how hard Mr. G. and the CSP Team are working. Also about some of the programs that were developed by CLF. Omer Ozmeral, our CEO of CLF, has had a lot of experience in managing charters and he and his team have covered a lot of ground.

All in all it looks like we have covered the issues the AACPS board asked for. Our test scores look good. Our students are taking a lot of AP courses and college courses. Our math team and robotics team are doing well so all in all I feel that we will score well.

Our teaching staff impresses me. The enthusiasm and dedication is, I feel, well above average. We finally have two assistant principals to help Mr G. who is stretched to the limit. Ms. Ozturk, Ms. Moore, Mr. Cicek have all added to the strength of the team.

The achievement gap is  a major concern to the AACPS board. In fact, at all Maryland districts. This problem has been around as long as I can remember and it has proved hard to improve. CSP has a very good record in closing the gap. We have plans to continue to shrink the gap even more.

As parents, you can help CSP by contacting your school board members.  I have spent a lot of time meeting with AACPS board members. We have had many, many breakfasts, lunches and meetings. They are a very dedicated group. Like all of us they have differences but they all have a huge desire to see that each student gets a good education. I have often kidded them about the pitiful allowances they get. If you consider the amount of time they spend going to all sorts of school events, with all the reading and meetings they have to attend, they don't even get minimum wage.

Time after time they have told me how they wished parents would tell them what was happening at their school. You don't ' have to write a big letter. Just a quick e-mail or even a phone call will be appreciated. I can assure you that your efforts will be greatly appreciated. You don't have to stick to "feel good" topics. They want suggestions on how to make the system better and fairer for everyone involved.

Over the years I have dealt with a lot of organizations, both public and private, and none of them will surpass the AACPS board when it comes to hard work and a genuine  interest in what they are doing.

New Date for CSP Science Fair

Dear Parents,

We wanted to explain to you why we had the sudden date change for this years Science Fair. We understand last minute changes are frustrating however this was out of our control.

Originally our science fair was scheduled to take place at the University of Maryland, as in previous years.

On December 20, 2013, we received notification that a UMD staff member had inadvertently cancelled the science fair event in their calendar system. When this happened, it cancelled all of the building staff scheduled to work that day in support of our event.

As soon as we found out, we immediately contacted a manger to resolve the issue. He was very apologetic for the mistake and worked all day to schedule staff for our originally scheduled date.  Unfortunately, he was unable re-schedule many of his employees. He could not continue with the event without a properly staffed building. He offered to move our Science Fair to another date.

We were apprehensive to reschedule at the University of Maryland this year after this experience.

If we decide to have future events at the University of Maryland we will only coordinate with the management staff.

Again, we apologize for the last minute change.

Ms. Chang, Science Fair Parent Coordinator

CSP Athletics

Hello CSP Community!

I wanted to send out an athletic update as we start a new year here at CSP.

Winter Sports: (Boys and Girls Basketball)

Our boys and girls basketball teams have started their inaugural seasons!  It has been very exciting for our students and staff.  The support for our teams has been overwhelming.  We have had great crowds at every game.  It is great to see such excitement around our athletic program.

The teams continue to work hard each and every day.  Our athletes continue to learn valuable lessons on and off the court as they continue on with their perspective season.  I have attached the remaining schedule below.  Please try and come out and root on our teams as they finish up their first ever basketball season.

Girls BasketballJanuary 8 vs Southern, January 14 vs Glen Burnie, January 29 vs Arundel, February 4 vs Chesapeake, and February 11 vs South River.  All games are played at CSP and start at 4pm.

Boys BasketballJanuary 10 vs South River, January 17 vs Old Mill, January 24 vs Chesapeake, January 31 vs Southern, February 7 vs North County, and February 14 vs Broadneck.  All games are played at CSP and start at 4 pm.

Spring Sports: (Track and field, BOCCI)

As I sit here to write this, I can’t believe that we are coming up on SPRING!  This spring, we will continue on with our Track and Field program.  The schedule is being prepared now.  We are starting to have our pre-season meetings this week.  The first track meeting will take place this Thursday, January, 9th directly after school.  Coach Hamrum will go over the specific details of what to expect.  The first day of spring sports isMARCH 1st.

For those athletes that have not participated in soccer or basketball, they will need to get all paperwork turned in prior to the start of the season. This includes a sport physical.  If there are any questions, please see Mr. Stedman.

We will also be launching our CSP Bocci team this spring.  This will be our first year of high school BOCCI.  Any high school student that is interested in joining the BOCCI team should see Mr. Stedman.  All students interested in BOCCI will need to fill out all athletic paperwork and get a sport physical prior to March 1st.

Thank you for all your support as we continue to grow our athletic program and provide our students with the opportunity to be a part of CSP Athletics.
