Principal's Letter

Dear Parents and Students,

High level learning environment continues to grow and develop at CSP! We began the year with much anticipation and excitement. First week was a very impressive beginning for our school community which proved we are a family who support each other. Our first newsletter reached out to more than 400 families which was a great opportunity of communication. In the year ahead, we will continue to build our unique programs and maintain those programs that lead to successful graduation for our high school students.

Our first two week goals are centered creating safe and orderly school environment. For that reason, our first week’s focus point is students` uniform which is very important at CSP. I am proud to announce that 99% of CSP students were fully uniformed entire last week. Thank you for your tremendous support. We know it was your effort and success!

I am looking forward to see all CSP families at the Back to School Nights, on September 10-11, 2013. Also, I am planning to have a ‘Breakfast with the Principal’ event that you will receive the dates and invitations soon. I believe it will be a great opportunity to build parent partnership to share and address any suggestions and concerns. My "main reason to create such partnerships is helping all students succeed in school and in later life." (Epstein, 1992). Everything is for the CSP students!

Also I would like to remind you that parents should ‘sign up’ for ParentConnect as soon as possible. Please visit the front desk to get your password and username.

Anne Arundel County Community College Partnership Programs

CSP – Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) academic partnership program, targeting to enhance our students’ academic skills for college readiness since 2012, continues for 13-14 school year. AACC officials were at CSP last week to complete the application process for the students and this week, parents and students are receiving letters to enroll to the courses.

Digital Imaging, Introduction to Psychology, Business and Its Environment, Consumer Economics & Personal Finance, and Global Business are some of the courses that will be offered this Fall Semester. Students will not pay any registration fee or tuition under this partnership agreement.

CSP Course Scheduling

Here at Chesapeake Science Point, we strive to treat every student as an individual. CSP students “acquire, retain, and manipulate large amounts of information and appear to learn in intuitive leaps (Davis & Rimm, 2004). Since CSP students have high level academic achievement, they have unique needs that require special attention on scheduling for them to succeed in school. Our student’s abilities and strengths far exceed any expectation that we’ve had for them.  That being said, our scheduling process is many times extremely tedious.  We thank parents and students for their patience during times of transitions, especially at the beginning of the school year.  Staff members and administration work around the clock to examine each student’s transcript and data in order to insure that each will be placed in courses that not only meet their state mandated graduation requirements, but also meet their personal goals as learners.  Scheduling is centered around their college readiness, teacher recommendation and personal interests.

6th Grade Placement Scores

6th Grade placement tests scores will be sent home with Mathematics Skill Analysis Report on September 3rd, 2013 by mail. Please check it out. The skill Analysis Report shows your child current math level with the list of 5th and 6th grade skills. The report will help you to track your child’s growth through the school year. Receiving your child's mid-year and end of the year assessments scores will help you see your child’s growth at CSP.

CSP Back to School Night

Back to School Night is coming up! Middle School is on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and High School is on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We are looking forward to seeing so many parents here at the school for this event.  We will discuss how families can help prepare their children for success each week and assist them in maintaining a positive attitude and high academic achievement throughout the school year.

We thank you for your commitment to CSP students. CSP staff is looking forward to developing a professional relationship with you beginning with the Back to School Nights. Let’s have a great year as we push CSP students to achieve more than they ever have been before! Thank you for your continued support.

CSP Athletics Program

Dear CSP Parents, Guardians and Athletic Supporters

I would like to officially announce that the school year (2013/ 2014) we will be moving forward with our high school boys and girls soccer program in the fall and high school boys and girls basketball in the winter.  We will continue to develop our Track team in the spring as well.   It is a very exciting time for the CSP community and all students.

With that said, I would like to officially introduce and congratulate Megan Birmingham as the new head coach of the CSP girls soccer team and Zafer Ilk as the new head coach of the CSP boys soccer team.

BOOSTERS and FUNDRAISING:

As we prepare for next year, we have many needs to help us in building a strong and successful athletic program.  I am still looking for parents and supporters to help build a CSP Athletic Boosters Club.  We will need to raise funds for many different aspects of our program.

Our needs include:

  • Soccer uniforms for both our girls and boys teams.
  • Soccer equipment.
  • Basketball uniforms for both boys and girls.
  • Basketball equipment.
  • Referee fees.
  • Transportation costs.

In an effort to raise money for our program I would like to set up an athletic committee/ boosters.  As with any athletic program, an integral part of its success will be due to support and partnerships between our parents, community, coaches, administration and athletes.  With strong positive support and involvement, we can enhance student success and overall program quality.  We will be looking to start the Chesapeake Science Point Athletic Boosters Club.  A strong athletic boosters club will assist with fundraising opportunities, help in managing and distributing funds, provide parent oriented assistance, promote the successful relationship between athletics and academics, and advocate for CSP Athletics in the community.  Additionally, the boosters club will provide a forum for discussions about our athletic program and related issues.

If you would like to be a part of the CSP Athletic Committee, please email me (Tstedman@mycsp.org) with your contact info.  We are looking to get this very important group together before the start of the fall 2013 season.

Sincerely

Tim Stedman

CSP's Boy Soccer team is ready too! "I can hear the tigers roar, they are ready to dominate" says Coach Ilk. He concluded that "The boys have trained and worked hard. I can't find words to describe their intensity; they will dominate and become a prominent team in the county. There nothing more to say, the boys will have their final words on the field!" As the CSP community knows, we strive for excellence and the boys have given what it takes to keep the expectations. Tigers are ready to take on Western Tech on Friday September 6 @ 4:00 PM. The team will set a solid statement to their opponents the first game. The boys are inviting the community for a blast.
