CSP HIGH SCHOOL MATH TEAM’S WINNING STREAK AT AACC MATH COMPETITION EXTENDS TO 17-IN-A-ROW!
February 11st, 2015 – Chesapeake Science Point (CSP) Public Charter School’s Math Team continued its winning ways, winning today’s 4th competition of the Anne Arundel Community College’s (AACC) High School Math Competition season. This win extended CSP’s winning streak to an outstanding 17 events in a row, extending over four seasons.
In this competition, students compete in two rounds, an individual round where students have thirty minutes to complete six hard problems, and a team round where a team of five students must work together to complete six more very challenging problems in thirty minutes. A team’s top three scoring individual scores are averaged and added to their top scoring team score to create the schools final score for each meet.
As the season advances, the AACC mathematics professors that run the contest move into more challenging material. In today’s contest there were no perfect scores earned in either round. The highest score earned in the individual round was 5 out of 6. Three students earned this including CSP 10th grader Anthony Krieger. Along with Anthony, other high scoring individuals for CSP today included 9th grader Glenn Boyette, 10th graders Benjamin Kelm and Ryan Budahazy and 11th grader Kyle Yamaguchi. In the team round, the highest score team today was CSP’s team of Anthony, Glenn, Benjamin, Ryan and Clarissa Sorrels who together scored 5 out of 6 correct.
